Is your phone full of half finished jobs back home?
How many Kenyans in the UK have a WhatsApp thread called “Plot” or “Mum’s house” that has not moved in months? Quite a few, we suspect.
The jobs are small. The distance is the problem.
You send money for a water tank. Weeks later you are still asking for a photo.
You ask a cousin to collect a certificate. He goes, but the office wants a different form. Then he gets busy.
Nobody is the villain here. People at home have their own lives. You cannot hop on a bus to Nairobi on a Saturday.
That gap between wanting to help and being able to check is something Kenyans in the UK feel every week. It is the gap we fill.
Where we come in
OnGround Africa is your person on the ground in Kenya. We do the visits, collections, checks and follow ups that need someone there in person.
Every job comes with photo and video proof. Every update comes on WhatsApp, at times that fit your shifts.
We work for Kenyans in the UK from Aberdeen to Brighton. It does not matter where you live, because the work happens in Kenya and the updates reach you anywhere.
Who is behind it
Our founder, Patrick Maina, has delivered more than 870 projects over 8 years for clients in over 56 countries. He holds 452 five star reviews.
A client from Ethiopia wrote that “Patrick does amazing groundwork for those who are remote from Kenya.” That sentence is the whole service in a nutshell.
What we are not
We are not lawyers, a bank, a government office or an immigration agent. When a licensed professional is needed, we bring in a licensed Kenyan advocate or agent and show you their fee first.

Why is the UK time gap such good news?
Here is a happy fact for Kenyans in the UK. The time gap with Kenya is small.
Compared with relatives in America or Australia, you are lucky. Your day and Nairobi’s day line up for most of the working hours.
Kenya stays on East Africa Time all year. The UK moves its clocks in spring and autumn.
| UK season | UK clock | Kenya is ahead by |
|---|---|---|
| Winter (late October to late March) | GMT | 3 hours |
| Summer (late March to late October) | BST | 2 hours |
What that means for you
Your working day and the Nairobi working day overlap for several hours. A question you send at 9am in Manchester reaches us at 11am or noon in Nairobi.
We can often visit an office, take photos and send them before you finish your lunch break.
For Kenyans in the UK, this means real conversations, not delayed messages. You can join a quick video call from the site while we are standing there.
Bank holidays and Kenyan holidays
UK bank holidays and Kenyan public holidays fall on different days. An office in Nairobi may be shut on a day you are free, or open when you are not.
We plan around both calendars. If a Kenyan holiday will delay a job, we tell you in advance and suggest the next open day.
Shift workers
Many Kenyans in the UK work nights in hospitals and care homes. Tell us when you sleep.
We hold non urgent updates until you are awake. Urgent ones follow the rule you choose.
Live video from the site
Because the gap is small, live video works well. Want to see the plot while you sit in your car in Croydon? We can call you from it.
Kenyans in the UK often use this for land, building and family visits. It feels almost like being there.
What do Kenyans in the UK ask us to do?
The list is long. These are the requests Kenyans in the UK send most often.
Family
- Family check in visits for parents and grandparents.
- Gift delivery in Nairobi for birthdays, graduations and Mother’s Day.
- Airport pickup or drop at JKIA for relatives travelling.
- Errands such as paying a bill in person or collecting medicine.
Remember that Mothering Sunday in the UK falls in spring, while many Kenyans mark Mother’s Day in May. We can deliver on either date, or both.
Many Kenyans in the UK celebrate both, one with their children in Britain and one with their mother in Kenya. A gift at home on the Kenyan date is a lovely touch.
Papers
- KRA PIN support and yearly nil returns.
- Certificate of good conduct support, often needed for UK jobs or visa files.
- Document pickup and courier to the UK.
- NTSA logbook transfer support for a car at home.
Papers are often the most urgent jobs. A UK employer or nursing body may set a deadline that does not care how slow a Kenyan office can be.
Land and building
- Land search coordination.
- Property inspection visits in Nairobi and nearby towns.
- Construction monitoring with two visits a month.
Business
- Company registration support.
- Bank account opening support.
- Supplier checks for traders importing Kenyan goods to Britain.
Some Kenyans in the UK run small import businesses selling Kenyan tea, coffee, kiondo bags or spices. A supplier visit before a big order protects both the money and the reputation.
How do Kenyans in the UK pay us?
We quote in US dollars. Clients pay by card, PayPal, bank or Mpesa. We confirm payment options with your quote.
If you pay by card from a UK account, your bank converts the dollar figure into pounds. Check with your bank for its rate.
A fixed dollar quote helps Kenyans in the UK compare costs clearly. You know our fee before any currency moves.
The rule that protects you
You get a written quote first. You pay only after you approve it.
Government fees, courier costs and advocate fees appear on their own lines. They are passed on at cost with receipts.
No surprise extras
If a job turns out bigger than expected, we stop and tell you. A new quote comes first.
You never wake up to a larger bill than the one you approved. That simple rule matters when you are budgeting from Britain.
Paying people in Kenya
We do not collect money for third parties. If a builder, school or seller needs paying, we help you check the details so you pay them directly.
That keeps a clean trail. You always know who received what.
Budgeting for home
Many Kenyans in the UK set aside a monthly amount for home. A family visit, a gift or a filing can fit into that budget.
We do not give financial advice. We simply keep our prices fixed and clear, so planning is easier.
Getting Kenyan documents to Britain
UK employers, nursing bodies and the Home Office often want papers from Kenya. A certificate of good conduct, a birth certificate or a transcript.
For Kenyans in the UK, these requests usually come with a deadline. Missing it can delay a job offer or a visa step.
How our document service works
We collect the original, photograph each page and send it by international courier with tracking. Our fee is $75 plus courier at cost.
You get the tracking number on WhatsApp. You can watch the parcel move all the way to your door.
For sending papers the other way, see our ship documents from Kenya page. We confirm when anything you post to Kenya arrives.
Originals versus copies
Ask the UK office whether it needs an original or a certified copy. Originals take longer and cost more to courier.
If a scan will do, we can photograph the document the same day. That can save Kenyans in the UK a week of waiting.
The certificate of good conduct
Many Kenyans in the UK need one for a new job, a visa or a professional register. Our certificate of good conduct from abroad service costs $120.
It is one of the most common requests from Kenyans in the UK starting new roles in health and social care.
Need an apostille?
Some UK offices ask for an apostille on Kenyan papers. Our apostille in Kenya page explains how we coordinate it.
Land, homes and building from the UK
Buying land is a dream for many Kenyans in the UK. It is also where people lose the most money.
Fake sellers know that a buyer in Britain cannot easily visit. They rely on pressure and pretty photos.
Before you pay a deposit
Get a land search. Our land search in Kenya service is $120 plus government and advocate fees.
Then have someone walk the plot. We check beacons, access and neighbours.
Kenyans in the UK can join by live video while we walk. You see the ground, the road and the neighbours for yourself. Our guide on how to buy land in Kenya from abroad explains each step.
Building while you work in Britain
Our construction monitoring plan includes two site visits a month with a report for $390 per month. You see the same views photographed each time.
Many Kenyans in the UK build in stages over several years. Regular visits make sure each stage is done before the next payment.
Renting out a flat
Own a flat in Kilimani or Ruaka? We can visit, check its condition and report.
That helps when a tenant leaves or a caretaker goes quiet. A $120 property inspection visit gives you fresh photos and an honest view.
Is your KRA PIN still in good shape?
Many Kenyans in the UK left with a KRA PIN from a job or HELB. That PIN still expects a return every year.
It is easy to forget while you deal with HMRC and council tax in Britain. Yet a neglected PIN can slow a land sale or a clearance certificate later.
KRA’s page for Kenyans living abroad says every PIN holder must file through iTax by the due date. It advises filing a nil return when there is nothing to declare.
The deadline
KRA lists 30th June of the following year as the deadline for individual returns. In June the UK is two hours behind Kenya, so the cut off is 10pm in London.
How we help
Our KRA nil returns from abroad service files for $40 per year. If you are locked out of iTax, we help you get back in.
KRA also encourages Kenyans abroad to visit home missions for filing support.
For Kenyans in the UK outside London, the trip to the mission can take a whole day. Filing through us takes one message.
What does it cost?
These are the services Kenyans in the UK ask for most. All prices are our fee in US dollars.
| Service | Our fee (USD) |
|---|---|
| Errand in Nairobi | from $50 |
| Gift delivery in Nairobi | $60 plus the gift cost |
| Family check in visit | $60 |
| Airport pickup or drop at JKIA | $60 |
| Document pickup and courier abroad | $75 plus courier at cost |
| KRA PIN support | $80 |
| KRA nil return filing | $40 per year |
| Certificate of good conduct support | $120 |
| Land search coordination | $120 plus government and advocate fees |
| Property inspection visit (Nairobi and nearby) | $120 |
| Power of attorney coordination | $150 plus advocate fees |
| NTSA logbook transfer support | $150 |
| Construction monitoring plan | $390 per month |
Travel outside Nairobi is quoted upfront. Urgent same week service adds 25 percent.
A simple example
Say you live in Cardiff and want your mother visited, a cake delivered for her birthday and your nil return filed. That is $60, $60 plus the cake and $40.
You see the total on one written quote. You approve it and we get going.
See everything on our pricing page.
How do we keep your money and family safe?
Trust is earned, so here is exactly how we work.
- Written quote first. No surprises.
- Pay only after approval. Nothing starts until you say yes.
- Photo and video proof. On every job.
- Receipts. For every government and courier fee.
- Honest limits. We say when an advocate or agent is needed.
What a typical month looks like
Some Kenyans in the UK set up a simple monthly rhythm. One visit to a parent, one check on a building and one errand.
Each is quoted and approved. Each comes with photos the same day.
It costs less than a flight and gives far more peace of mind. Over a year you build a clear picture of home without leaving Britain.
Scams to watch
Fake land sellers, fake job agents and fake officials target people abroad. They count on you being too far away to check.
If an offer feels rushed, send it to us first. A quick visit or call often tells the truth.
Kenyans in the UK have a strong network of friends and church groups. Yet even a trusted friend’s tip deserves a check on the ground.
Who are the Kenyans in the UK we help?
People from many walks of life message us.
- Nurses and carers in the NHS and care homes.
- Students in Leeds, Coventry and Glasgow.
- Professionals in London and Reading.
- Families in Birmingham and Leicester supporting parents at home.
- Traders importing Kenyan tea, coffee or crafts.
Each group has different needs. Yet all Kenyans in the UK share the same wish: to know home is in good hands.
The State Department for Diaspora Affairs
Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs sits within the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. It focuses on the welfare of Kenyans abroad.
We are not government. We are a private ground team for practical tasks.
For consular matters, contact the Kenya High Commission. For running around at home, Kenyans in the UK can contact us.
Can we help with big family moments from afar?
Some moments at home cannot wait for your next flight. A ruracio, a graduation, a hospital stay or a funeral.
Kenyans in the UK often carry part of the planning from thousands of miles away. Calls at odd hours, money sent in pieces and constant worry that something is missed.
What we can do
- Deliver gifts, flowers or a cake on the day.
- Collect relatives from JKIA and drop them home.
- Run errands for the family, such as picking up hired chairs or printed programmes.
- Visit a parent in hospital and send you a short update.
- Collect and courier documents such as a burial permit copy or a death certificate copy when the family asks.
How it works on a busy week
You send one list. We confirm each item with a price and you approve the quote.
Then we tick items off one by one, with a photo for each. You see progress without chasing ten different people.
When you fly in
If you make it home, we can meet you at the airport for $60 and help with errands while you focus on family. Our JKIA airport pickup page has the details.
Respect and discretion
Family moments are personal. We keep our updates short and respectful. We only share what you ask us to share.
